Updates and notices from the NameChase team.
Hi, This week's update is Bulk Lookup, now open to every paid plan. Paste or upload a list of .uk names (up to 5,000 a list) and get everything we know about each one in the same table and filters as the droplist: registered or available, expiry, registrar, Domain Rating (Ahrefs), Google search volume, CPC and competition, Common Crawl link counts, keywords and drop outcome. That includes names that aren't on any droplist. How credits work - Each domain costs 1 credit, once. namechase.uk and namechase.co.uk are two. - Once you've paid for a domain it stays yours on every list: re-run, edit or merge a list and it costs nothing again. - If you want fresh data on a name you've already paid for, a Refresh costs 1 credit per domain whose data is over 7 days old, and only when you ask. Our own refreshes are free. - Daily credits by plan (UK day): Bronze 100, Silver 250, Gold 1,000. A list bigger than today's credits runs what it can and carries on each day, and tells you how long it will take. Also in the box - We check your list before saving: typo suggestions, subdomains and emails grouped under the name they point to. Nothing changes unless you click. - Merge lists, split out whatever a filter selects, rename a list, and an optional "your lookup is ready" email. - The droplist filters now work properly on phones and tablets. - Want to try new things early? Tick "Try new features early (beta)" on your Account page (CSV export is there now). Tell me what you'd like it to do next, just reply. Daniel
We have changed the login URL so it now uses namechase.uk as the base URL, instead of SupaBase our user authentication providers domain, this might result in you being logged out of your session
The sign-in links we email you now start with auth.namechase.uk instead of a Supabase address, so they match the rest of the site and look less like something to be wary of. Nothing changes for you: you stay signed in, and any sign-in link already in your inbox still works.
Hi all, This week's big addition is link data for every .uk name, not just the ones on the droplist. What's new - A Links column on the droplist, so you can see at a glance which names have inbound links. - Three new filters: Total Links, Top 100k Sites and Edu/Gov/Health Links. The last one is handy for spotting names that have been linked from universities, government or health sites. - Open any row to see link count boxes and a Web Rank, plus a Linking sites list showing the top 10 sites linking to that name. About 3.35 million .uk names are covered, and 90% of them have at least one link. The data comes from Common Crawl, so credit to them. It's a partial crawl, which means the counts will be lower than you'd see in Ahrefs or Majestic. Think of it as a way to compare names against each other, not as a replacement for those tools. It refreshes quarterly. Linking sites and Web Rank are on the paid plans (Bronze and up). Free accounts still get the counts and all three filters. Also - Status page: https://status.namechase.uk/ shows whether the website, and the database are up. There's a Status link in the site footer. If anything looks wrong, check there first. - Search with the TLD: paste a full domain like dubinski.co.uk into the droplist search and it now finds that name in every TLD, with the one you typed highlighted. As always, if something looks off or you'd like something added, just reply. Daniel
We now record the width of your browser window when you load a page. It's an anonymous count of which size band you fall in, such as "1024 to 1279 pixels", never your exact width. We use it to decide how best to lay out the droplist data, because the filters and the table behave differently at different screen sizes. This only adds to the anonymous visit statistics we already collect. It isn't linked to your account, it isn't counted if your browser sends Do Not Track, and nothing else about how we handle your data has changed. The full wording is on the privacy page, which now shows today's date.
Hi all, The headline this week is Google CPC. The droplist now shows Google's suggested bid per click for a name's keywords, next to search volume. What's new - CPC and Competition columns. Both come from Google's Keyword Planner and sit beside Search Volume. CPC is the high end of Google's suggested top-of-page bid (open a row to see the full range). About 408,000 names are covered so far, and the rest fill in as they're checked. - New filters. Filter by CPC (a slider with round pound stops), by Competition (low, medium or high), and by registration year. "Show … no value" boxes let you keep or hide names that have no SV, Competition, CPC, Year or DR. The CPC, Competition and DR filters come with the same plans as the Search Volume filter. - A tidier filter panel. Name, Drops, Google and Ahrefs now sit side by side on a wide screen. The panel remembers whether you left it open, and there are new Reset Changes, Reset Filters and Reset Search buttons. - A ? means "not checked yet". On the Google columns, ? means we haven't looked yet and - means we looked and Google has nothing. It was confusing before. Also - New Caught and Updating filters in the Drops Show row, next to Listed, Renewed and Available. - Recently Dropped now counts the names that match your filters, so hiding Available no longer leaves you with a handful of rows. - The filter panel's buttons wrap properly on a phone. What I'm working on next I'm looking at adding Wayback Machine history to names, so you can see what a domain used to be. No dates yet, and if there's something else you'd rather see first, tell me. As always, tell me what's missing or wrong. Daniel
Another big one. Quick honest note first: some of you hit real hangs and 500s on the droplist over the last couple of weeks — traced to a database query joining a table it didn't need to touch, now fixed properly (not just patched — that whole class of bug structurally can't happen again). Alongside that I've made a round of other database changes aimed squarely at speed, so pages should generally feel snappier too. One more thing, and it's a big one: NameChase is coming out of free beta and moving to paid plans — Bronze, Silver and Gold, already listed on the pricing page from £5/month. As part of that transition, everyone's account is moving back to the free Registered tier, and billing is going live from today — so if you want to keep the features of a paid tier, subscribing is how to hold onto them now. - The Watchlist now works exactly like the droplist — same filters, same table, same sorting and expanded rows, including search volume and Domain Rating on your own names, not the separate simplified view it had before. - There's a public Stats page now, at /stats — upcoming drops by ending, busiest days, and now drop outcomes too: how names actually ended (caught, renewed, dropped), catch rates by ending and by name length. - Ahrefs Domain Rating is now shown alongside search volume, with its own filter and a fill bar on the pill so ratings compare at a glance. - The filter panel's had a redesign — plain Show checkboxes instead of Any/Yes/No dropdowns, a Domain Rating range filter, and regex is now a mode in the search box itself instead of a separate field. - Watched names not yet on the droplist now show an estimated drop date instead of nothing. - Two more things, no spoilers: there's a small easter egg live on the site somewhere, and if you're on Acorn Domains, keep an eye out there for a surprise too. Daniel
We've started counting visits anonymously with Umami, a cookieless analytics service, so we can tell whether people actually use NameChase. It stores no IP address, isn't linked to your account, never sees your searches, and skips anyone with Do Not Track on. Separately, your account now records when you last used the site (updated at most hourly), so we can tell whether the beta is being used. It's included in your data download. Details are in our privacy policy.
It's been a busy week. First, the bad news: a database schema change broke everything early on, which was a terrible start and put a hold on other work while we dealt with the complexities of fixing it live in beta. That said, we still managed to ship some solid new features. - Advanced search filters are now available directly from the search bar. Hover over the ? icon on the right of the search bar to see the syntax. - We've adjusted which columns show in the droplist table. This information was always available by opening the detail panel, but we felt some of these datapoints deserved to be seen inline instead of requiring a click. - Keywording is live. Domain names are now automatically broken into their likely keyword parts, so names that used to split oddly now read cleanly and make sense at a glance. - Metrics have started. We now show Google search volume on the droplist, with more data sources coming over the next few weeks. It's filterable, and the expanded row shows a small line graph of historic search volume. One limitation for now: my API access is on a zero-spend account, so Google itself only returns rough numbers rather than precise ones — rather than pretend more precision than the data actually has, I've bucketed the numbers for display. I'm hoping to improve that over the next couple of weeks, though I believe it needs real ad spend behind the account to unlock proper precision — which is also why Google CPC isn't in yet.
Well that was fun, the migration essentially took the entire site down, lost all the domain data, and is now running without the history we had before. Thankfully, that's all recoverable, and the site is now back online in a stable state. Daniel
Having descovered some issues with how historic data is stored, we are about to start a major database migration, the existing database will be backed up before this takes place, this shouldn't take more than a few hours, but the site might go offline, or become unresponsive during this time.
You can now pick the font for the droplist and admin tables from your Account page — separately for domain names and for the rest of the data. If the default is awkward to read on your screen, try one of the alternatives; they're all common system fonts, so it's just a matter of what your eyes prefer. Changes like this come from beta feedback. If something about NameChase would work better for you, send it in on the Feedback page — it's read, and it feeds into what gets built next.
There have been some bug fixes, and new features this week: Database: With the adition of more domains to the main database, page loads became really slow and slugish, so we did some work on the database and managed to sort that out, but it broke again with the daily list update, this has now also now been fixed, and runs the indexing when the droplist updates overnight. Update Notices: We added an ability to send you update, this is opt-out in your account tab, and are viewable on site along with an email. Feedback: There is now a feedback form found on the bottom of the site, this is somwhere you can send us feedback, etc...
